I made many hundreds of candlesticks in a variety of similar forms in the 1980’s and 1990’s – of which this is still my favourite design. For me their importance lies both with their aesthetic beauty and with the convergence of many seemingly contradictory ‘churches’ of thought – religion, science, art, consumerism, environmentalism and recycling. These churches and their philosophies are often at odds with each other, and the future of humanity and the planet to a great extent seems to rely on these churches finding united common ground without contradictions. ©
