Abstract Head

Oak 7″ high.

This is the first piece of abstract sculpture I made (aged 13) and I still like it – I will maybe make a large version one day.  I remember struggling with the base in trying to decide what form it should have – I am still unsure. I have always found the bases of objects and sculptures the most difficult aspect – I think it is partly to do with the fact that the base needs to perform an engineering function as well as an aesthetic function thus introducing compromises; and partly to do with the grounding of an object in space.
